一、Structured Intelligence 还是 End-to-End Intelligence?
1.1 从 The Society of Mind 到 Deep Learning
Minsky 的 The Society of Mind 提出了一个非常有影响力的观点:
Deep learning
scale itself is the architecture。
1.2 World Intelligence 与 Body Intelligence
World Intelligence
environment。
objects。
other animals。
prey。
predators。
other people。
goals。
future possibilities。
planning。
Body Intelligence
posture。
balance。
joint state。
contact。
force。
locomotion。
breathing。
circulation。
internal regulation。
fast execution。
cortex。
conscious perception。
explicit reasoning。
prediction。
planning。
brainstem。
spinal cord。
cerebellar circuits。
autonomic nervous system。
local sensorimotor loops。
有 state。
2.1 Vision
walking。
running。
disturbance recovery。
stable gait。
object。
geometry。
depth。
motion。
semantics。
context。
Motor policy
Vision
Real-Time?
asynchronous multi-rate architecture。
比如:
而:
Vision
target。
direction。
desired speed。
trajectory。
task mode。
constraints。
proprioception。
force。
contact。
local state。
Vision should update intent, not clock the body.
2.3 Vision Robustness 的 Paradox
Head camera。
Wrist camera。
End-effector camera。
External camera。
2.4 Training
task structure。
semantics。
trajectory。
timing。
planning。
successful behavior。
contact force。
joint torque。
friction。
slip。
compliance。
actuator saturation。
disturbance recovery。
Video teaches what motion looks like. Interaction teaches how to make it work.
practice。
failure。
adjustment。
racing line。
braking strategy。
timing。
Data
Biological system 有:
proprioception。
touch。
joint sensing。
muscle feedback。
balance。
pressure。
contact。
slip。
Robot 有:
encoder。
IMU。
force/torque sensor。
tactile sensor。
motor current。
joint velocity。
contact signal。
Vision is globally rich but dynamically indirect.
Motor sensing is environmentally narrow but dynamically rich.
Fast sensing enables fast learning.
Physics
finite energy。
finite bandwidth。
signal propagation delay。
sensor noise。
limited computation。
actuator dynamics。
Long-distance communication
spinal cord。
cerebellum。
autonomic system。
peripheral circuits。
Evolution
为什么 artificial intelligence 一定要先有一个 universal latent model,再要求它学习 perception、world reasoning、body dynamics 和 motor control?
Far-Field and Predictive
Vision
far-field、exteroceptive sensing。
Vision
Vision is far-field and predictive.
3.4 Force 和 Proprioception 是 Near-Field and Corrective
Force、touch、proprioception
Force sensing is near-field and corrective.
Temporal Bandwidth
Sound
air pressure variation。
Touch 是:
force。
deformation。
vibration。
contact。
Vision
object。
geometry。
depth。
motion。
semantics。
context。
Vision is high-dimensional in space.
Motor sensing is high-resolution in time.
3.6 World Intelligence 与 Body Intelligence
cortex。
conscious perception。
explicit reasoning。
prediction。
planning。
environment。
other animals。
prey。
predators。
objects。
other people。
future possibilities。
goals。
brainstem。
spinal cord。
cerebellar circuits。
autonomic nervous system。
local sensorimotor loops。
peripheral regulatory systems。
body state。
posture。
balance。
gait。
swimming。
contact。
muscle coordination。
breathing。
circulation。
internal regulation。
3.7 Body Intelligence
state estimation。
feedback。
adaptation。
disturbance rejection。
coordination。
prediction。
所以:
The body has intelligence of its own.
Dumb Body
World Intelligence 说:
Predator
Body Intelligence
World Intelligence
Body Intelligence 解决:
怎样协调 joint、maintain balance、switch gait、recover from disturbance。
World Intelligence
meaning。
goal。
prediction。
strategy。
Body Intelligence
physics。
execution。
stability。
recovery。
3.9 Local Motor Circuit 给出的 Biology Clue
Advantage?
4.1 Multi-Rate、Asynchronous Architecture
Agent
Running Agent
High-level
right knee 多少度。
High-level
stop。
change terrain mode。
adaptive delegation。
4.3 Hierarchy 是 Information Compression
speed。
direction。
goal。
mode。
urgency。
information compression。
Learned Manifold
Indexing Geometry
Distance is task-dependent.
High-level
speed。
direction。
distance。
terrain。
target。
Pretraining learns the manifold.
Post-training shapes its metric.
The metric organizes and indexes the manifold.
The interface aligns one manifold with another.
The prompt selects a region or direction.
The agent executes the trajectory.
Learned Bridge
adapter。
projection head。
small transformer。
latent translator。
representation alignment。
5.1 VLM / VLA
scene understanding。
object recognition。
semantic reasoning。
task interpretation。
goal selection。
high-level planning。
5.2 World Model
World Model。
World Action Model。
Predictive Model。
World Model
physical reasoning。
prediction。
counterfactual simulation。
long-horizon planning。
environment dynamics understanding。
World Model 是更强的 World Intelligence。
imagine future state。
compare alternatives。
plan farther ahead。
World Model
A better brain does not eliminate the need for a spinal cord.
World Model?
hierarchical reinforcement learning。
options。
temporal abstraction。
central pattern generators。
dynamical movement primitives。
latent skill space。
proprioceptive locomotion。
rapid motor adaptation。
vision-conditioned locomotion。
language-conditioned motor primitives。
skill embedding。
unity of behavior 并不意味着 unity of developmental origin,也不意味着 unity of internal architecture。
5.4 Society of Agents
Minsky:
World Model Agent 负责预测 future。
representation。
sensor modality。
training data。
timescale。
computational architecture。
Deep learning
World Intelligence
environment。
other agents。
prediction。
planning。
Body Intelligence
body state。
homeostasis。
dynamics。
contact。
posture。
execution。
Vision 是:
far-field。
spatially rich。
predictive。
World Model 是:
future-oriented。
reasoning-heavy。
Motor sensing 是:
near-field。
mechanical。
temporally dense。
corrective。
Body control 是:
fast。
local。
closed-loop。
forebrain 就是 World Intelligence、hindbrain 就是 Body Intelligence。
World Intelligence
Body Intelligence
compact condition。
learned interface。
representation alignment。
prediction。
delegation。
High-level 负责:
intent。
goal。
planning。
Low-level 负责:
physics。
execution。
stability。
recovery。
这不是 continuous micromanagement。
而是:
adaptive delegation。
How large should intelligence be?
而是:
What kind of intelligence belongs at each spatial and temporal scale, and how should these intelligences cooperate?
Minsky
The Society of Mind。
The Society of Agents
specialization、alignment、prediction、communication 与 adaptive delegation。
